Meet the Founder – Shannon Slender

My name is Shannon Slender, and I am the founder of Rednels K9 Services. I bring over 16 years of experience in the veterinary field as a Registered Veterinary Nurse, alongside my qualifications as a Dog Trainer, Canine Behaviourist, and Canine Nutritionist. Most importantly, I am a dedicated and passionate dog owner with a lifelong commitment to canine welfare and wellbeing.

Before launching Rednels K9 Services, I held the role of Executive Veterinary Nurse Manager at a busy referral practice in Norfolk. While managing a demanding clinical role, I also began working with dogs in a training capacity, balancing both professions for over six years.

In 2020, I made the decision to fully pursue my passion and founded Rednels K9 Services — providing one-to-one dog training and residential training programmes. My approach is professional, personalised, and grounded in both veterinary and behavioural science.

In line with changes to the Animal Welfare Act (April 2022), which requires anyone housing dogs (outside of a veterinary setting) to obtain a boarding licence, I underwent a full inspection by Breckland Council. I was proud to be awarded a 5-star boarding and daycare licence (AWL00139) and subsequently expanded our services to include dog boarding and day care, alongside our established training programmes.

As of February 2025, we have moved to a beautiful new location in Shipdham, set within 5 acres of fully fenced private meadowland. While the surroundings may have changed, our kennel setup, high standards of care, and commitment to your dogs’ wellbeing remain exactly the same.

At Rednels K9 Services, our goal is simple: to provide professional, compassionate, and knowledgeable care for your canine companions — whether for training, boarding, or day care.

Rednels K9 boarding;

At Rednels K9 services, we offer a bespoke boarding experience designed with your dog’s comfort, safety, and happiness at the heart of everything we do.

What Makes Us Different?

We care for your dog as if they were one of our own. Our kennels are spacious, clean, and well-equipped, featuring temperature regulation, fire alarms, and electric lighting to ensure a safe and comfortable environment at all times.

Dogs from different households are never mixed in sleeping or exercise areas. Dogs are only housed together if they live together at home. With owner consent and following a successful behavioural assessment, some dogs may enjoy social walks in carefully selected groups. Alternatively, we are more than happy to provide solo walks tailored to your dog’s individual needs.

By limiting the number of dogs we board at any one time, we ensure each dog receives plenty of one-on-one time, affection, and individual attention every day.

Pre-Assessment & Trial Stays

Before any boarding stay, all dogs must attend a pre-assessment visit. This allows us to get to know your dog, assess their behaviour, and ensure they’ll be happy and relaxed in our care. It also gives you the opportunity to meet us, view our facilities, and ask any questions. We’re happy to arrange trial visits for a morning, full day, or overnight stay to help your dog settle in and give you peace of mind.

Important Information

As a small, specialised facility, we are unable to accept dogs who display aggression towards people or other dogs.

All dogs must be up to date with the following prior to boarding:

  • Core vaccinations (DHP, Lepto 2/4, and Kennel Cough), or a veterinary certificate confirming a valid titre test

  • Flea and worm treatments

To confirm your dog’s booking, a completed Booking & Consent Form and a photo of your dog’s current vaccination card must be emailed to us in advance

Dog Boarding Charges

At Rednels K9 services, we provide premium care in a calm, well-managed environment. Our pricing reflects the high standard of service and the individual attention each dog receives.

Daily Boarding Rates:

  • 1 dog: £35 per day

  • 2 dogs (from the same household): £30 per dog, per day

  • 3 or more dogs (from the same household): £25 per dog, per day

Important Information:

  • Boarding is charged per calendar day (12:00am–12:00am), not per night.

  • The day of arrival and the day of collection are both charged in full, regardless of drop-off or collection times.

    • For example: A stay from Friday 9:00am to Sunday 10:00am would be charged as three full days (3 x £35 = £105).

Holiday Rates:

  • Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, and Bank Holidays are charged at £50 per day, per dog.

Feeding Policy:

To avoid gastrointestinal upset, we strongly recommend that owners provide their dog’s usual food for the duration of their stay.

  • If you prefer us to supply food, we are happy to do so at an additional charge of £2 per day.

  • Our in-house food is a high-quality lamb and rice working dog diet.

Behavioural Assessments:

All dogs must undergo a pre-boarding assessment.

  • Assessment sessions are charged at £20, payable in advance to secure the appointment.

Our Daily Routine

At Rednels K9 services, our structured daily routine is designed to provide calm, consistent care, physical exercise, and mental stimulation. We prioritise your dog’s well-being by offering regular interaction and individualised attention throughout the day.

Our standard routine is outlined below and can be fully tailored to suit dogs with specific needs, such as puppies requiring additional meals, dogs on medication, or those recovering from injury.

Morning Routine (5:30am – 6:00am)

  • Early morning toilet walk (approx. 15 minutes), either solo or in a group depending on your dog’s needs.

  • Time in the exercise area while kennels are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

  • Breakfast is served.

  • Rest period in their kennel to allow for proper digestion.

Mid-Morning (10:00am)

  • A 20-minute walk or training session on our private meadow (solo or group, based on your dog’s behaviour and preferences).

  • Between walks, dogs enjoy quiet time in their beds or supervised free time. Kennel doors are safely pinned open so dogs can relax in their rooms, explore the corridor, or potter around the secure exercise areas.

  • Dogs are rotated for rest and enrichment throughout the day.

Afternoon (2:00pm)

  • Another 20-minute walk or training session, again tailored to your dog’s individual needs.

  • Followed by quiet time or supervised pottering, just like the morning routine.

Evening (4:00pm – 6:00pm)

  • Dinner is served at 4:00pm, followed by a short rest period.

  • A final 20-minute walk or training session takes place around 6:00pm (solo or group depending on temperament and owner consent).

  • Dogs can then unwind in their space or enjoy additional pottering time.

Bedtime Routine (10:30pm – 11:00pm)

  • Final toileting session before lights out for a peaceful night’s sleep.

We believe in providing frequent, low-impact activities throughout the day, rather than just one or two long walks. This keeps dogs mentally and physically stimulated without overstressing them, especially in a kennel environment.

Our care is flexible and entirely centred around your dog’s unique needs. Whether they require extra feeding, medical care, rest, or tailored exercise, we’re happy to adapt their routine to ensure they’re happy, healthy, and comfortable during their stay.

Rednels k9 services day boarding.

What Makes Our Day boarding Different?

At Rednels K9 services, our day boarding service is carefully structured to provide meaningful enrichment, physical exercise, and essential rest — all in a safe, well-managed environment.

Unlike many day care facilities where dogs are left to run around in large groups with minimal supervision, we take a more thoughtful and controlled approach.

Structure and Supervision

  • Dogs follow a planned routine that includes multiple structured walks throughout the day, either solo or in small groups depending on owner consent and behavioural compatibility.

  • Each dog undergoes a behavioural assessment before being considered for group walks, ensuring safe and positive social interactions.

  • Walks are stimulating and enjoyable but also guided — allowing freedom and fun without encouraging undesirable behaviours or undoing existing training.

Rest and Recovery

  • Between walks and play sessions, dogs rest in their own private rooms. This helps prevent overstimulation, supports healthy routines, and ensures dogs return home calm and relaxed, not over-tired or unsettled.

Balanced Socialisation

  • We believe in providing the right kind of socialisation — structured, supervised, and tailored to your dog’s temperament and training level.

  • Our goal is to help dogs build confidence, enjoy play, and learn to interact appropriately in a calm and controlled setting.

At Rednels, day care is more than just keeping your dog busy — it’s about providing them with a purposeful, enriching experience that supports their well-being, both physically and mentally.

Residential Training at Rednels K9 Services

Tailored Training for Gundogs and Pet Companions

What is Residential Training?

Residential training is an immersive program where your dog stays with us for an extended period, allowing for structured, consistent training throughout the entire day. Unlike one-hour training sessions, residential training integrates learning into every aspect of your dog’s daily routine—from kennel manners first thing in the morning, to focused training sessions in the field.

Each dog benefits from a bespoke training plan, designed to meet their individual needs—whether you’re looking to build solid obedience, improve lead work and recall, address behavioural issues, or progress with gundog-specific training. Dogs are also gently socialised with calm, well-behaved companions to build confidence and promote balanced behaviour.

Our residential training covers:

  • General manners

  • Engagement and focus

  • Lead walking and heel work

  • Reliable recall and staying within range

  • Socialisation and impulse control

  • Obedience foundations and advanced gundog work (as required)

Tailored Training for Every Dog

We work with both pet dogs and working gundogs, creating individualised training plans to suit your dog’s breed, temperament, and your personal goals.

How to Get Started

  1. Initial Contact – Please email to outline your dog’s current behaviours and your training goals.

  2. Assessment Visit – We’ll invite you to visit our facilities in Shipdham (IP25 7PU) to meet in person, assess your dog, and discuss a personalised training plan.

  3. Trial Stay (48 hours) – Your dog will stay for two days so we can assess how they settle and further refine our training approach.

  4. Booking Residential Training – Once the trial stay is complete, we’ll confirm your dog’s residential training dates.

Residential training is in high demand and places are limited, so early booking is recommended.

Fee: £55.00 per dog per day

Training Holidays

If you’re heading away on holiday and want your dog to maintain structure and progress while you’re gone, we offer Training Holidays. This is a more structured alternative to standard boarding, ensuring continuity in training or focused work on areas that need improvement.

Fee: £45.00 per dog per day

Please email to enquire about availability and discuss your dog’s specific needs.

Important Information for All Clients – Drop-Offs, Collections & Communication

Rednels K9 Services is based at my family home, which also operates as a professional training and boarding facility. For the safety of all dogs on site and to ensure smooth running of the day, we ask all clients to kindly adhere to the following guidelines:

Supervision and Security

There is always someone on-site 24 hours a day, ensuring your dog is never left unattended. However, as this is also a family residence, we have strictly scheduled drop-off and collection windows that must be pre-arranged at least one week prior to your dog’s arrival.

Drop-Off and Collection Times (Strictly by Appointment Only)

Monday – Friday: 6:00am – 9:00am & 4:00pm – 7:00pm

Saturday: 6:00am – 9:00am & 5:00pm – 6:00pm

Sunday & Bank Holidays: 9:00am – 10:00am only

These times are non-negotiable, so please ensure your schedule aligns with them when arranging your dog’s stay.

Arrival Etiquette

  • Please do not arrive early for your appointment. If you are ahead of schedule, wait in the layby just down the road until your allotted time.

  • Arriving early may pose a safety risk, as dogs may be off-lead or staff may be actively walking dogs around the property.

  • If you are delayed unexpectedly, please call or message to let us know as soon as possible.

  • Repeated lateness may result in a fee being applied.

On Arrival

When you arrive, ring the front gate doorbell and wait for a member of staff to come out and meet you.

Please do not enter the premises unaccompanied—this is for your safety and the safety of the dogs, as there may be dogs loose in the training or kennel areas.

Communication & Enquiries

We are a small, family-run business and pride ourselves on the high standard of hands-on care we provide to all dogs. While we aim to respond to enquiries promptly, our priority is always the well-being and training of the dogs in our care.

Please be patient when waiting for a response—administration and messages are handled during designated office hours, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Warm regards,

Shannon
