ABOUT ME

I would like to introduce myself. I am Shannon Slender, a registered veterinary nurse, dog trainer, dog behaviourist and a passionate dog owner.
I have worked in the veterinary industry for over 16 years. I was an executive veterinary nurse manager at a busy referral practice in Norfolk before leaving the veterinary profession to pursue my love of dogs full time.
I had been training dogs for 6 years, along side nursing.
Then, in 2020, I decided to follow my dream and I founded Rednels K9 Services. I began training dogs full time, offering 1-2-1 training and Residential training.
Many may not be aware that the Animal Welfare Act was updated in April 2022 which stipulated, amongst other things, that anyone housing dogs, other than a Veterinary practice, must now have a boarding licence. In response to this, following a thorough inspection by the Breckland Council, I was awarded a 2 year boarding licence (AWL00139). So I started offering boarding and day care along side training.

Fast forward to Febuary 2025 and we are at a lovely new location in Shipdham with a 5 acre fully fenced in meadow. We are still keeping our kennel set up the same and still maintaining our high standards of care, we are just at a lovely new location.

DOG BOARDING.

Here at Rednels K9 kennels, I offer a unique boarding experience. Why am I different? I treat your dogs like they are one of my own. Your dogs will be housed in roomy kennels. The kennel facilities include temperature monitoring and regulation, fire alarms and electric lighting. Dogs are only housed together in a room if they live together at home. I do not mix different dogs from different households in the sleeping areas or in exercise areas. With the owners consent dogs can go on group walks with dogs from different household after a behavioural assessment has taken place. We are also more than happy to carry out solo walks depending on your dogs requirements.

By only boarding a small number of dogs at any one time, there is always time in the day for one on one time and attention.

All dogs are booked in for a pre assessment prior to boarding for a behavioural assessment and also so you can meet me and view the set up to make sure you’re happy with your dog staying here. We are very happy for your dog to visit for trial a morning/day or overnight to make sure you and your dog are happy, and to make sure we are the right place for your dog.

Please note, due to being a small facility, unfortunately I am unable to accommodate any aggressive dogs (either towards people or other dogs).

Dogs are required to be up to date with their current vaccinations (DHP L2/4 + kennel cough, or a veterinary certificate of a titre test), and flea and worm treatment, prior to arrival for their stay.  A Booking In and Consent form and a photo of your dogs vaccination card must be completed and emailed to me when you are booking your dog in for a stay.

10.30/11pm; Bed time toileting. Lights off and sleep.

Our routine can be tailored to your dog. For example a puppy on 3/4 meals a day, a dog on medication, a dog on rest due to injury ect. This is our routine for dogs without extra requirements. We would rather dogs get out little and often for walks/training than one or two big walks a day then they are cooped up in a kennel all day.

DAY BOARDING.

Why are we different for day care? Our day care is structured. We don’t allow multiple dogs to run around all day doing their own thing.

Dogs are housed in their own rooms for rest time between walks. Your dog will be walked multiple times a day either solo or group walks, depending on what you as an owner to consent to. A behaviour assessment will take place so dogs can be paired up for group walks correctly.

Walks are structured, dogs are allowed to have freedom and fun, but dogs will not learn bad behaviours and undo training.  Allowing dogs to have the correct socialisation and play.

RESIDENTIAL TRAINING

Residential training. What is that?

Residential training is where your dog boards with me for a period of time while they are trained throughout the day. Training a well rounded behaved dog is not just going to a field and spending an hour training a day. All training starts at the beginning of the day, within the kennel, with an emphasis on manners and responsiveness. During the day, those basics are then followed on with training out in the field. The advantage of Residential training rests with the consistency of training delivered throughout the day, working on everything from general house manners, to engagement, to heel work, recall, keeping a close distance when released, socialising around well behaved calm dogs, impulse control and then further obedience and gundog work if required. Residential training can be tailored to you and your dog's needs, depending on what you would like to achieve.

How to proceed with residential training.

-Send an email to explain what is going on and what you would like to achieve.

- An assessment is then booked and carried out. This is where you come to view the facilities, I meet yourself and your dog and you show me what is going on. I work with you to come up with a plan of action for your dog's training.

-A 48 hour stay is then required to see how your dog settles here, so I can get to know your dog, so we can proceed with the best plan for you and your dogs needs.

- We then book the residential training.

Limited availability for Residential training so please book well in advance.

Please email for more information on residential training.

£55.00 per dog per day

We also have training holiday options.

So if your going away on holiday for a pre planned vacation and you would like something more structured than boarding, we offer training holidays where we can work on areas where you are struggling or maintain the training that has already taken place so your dogs training program does not alter while you are away on holiday.

Please email for more information on training holidays

£45.00 per day per dog.

OPENING HOURS

Someone is on site at all times day and night. But this is my family home as-well as my business so there are strict drop off and collection times that must be pre organised at least one week prior to your drop off day and adhered to.

Please do not turn up early to an appointment, if you arrive ahead of time, please wait in the lay by down the road until your appointment time. If you turn up ahead of time I may be walking dogs and it’s not safe to drive in. I understand sometimes things occur which cause you to run late, which is unpreventable but, if you are running late please message or call me to make me aware. Multiple lateness will result in a fine.

When you arrive please ring the ring door bell at the front gate and wait for someone to come out. Please do not enter the facility unaccompanied due to the risk of potential loose dogs.

Drop off/collection windows;

Monday- Friday 6-9am & 4-7pm

Saturdays; 6-9am & 5-6pm

Sundays and bank holidays 9am-10am only.

These windows are not for negotiation, please plan your dogs stay around these drop off times.

We are a small family run business and I shall respond to your enquiries as soon as I can. Please be patient, we prioritise the hands on care of our dogs over paperwork. I have paperwork days that i set out so please be kind, i shall get back to you as soon as i can.
